FAQ
Quick answers to the most common questions about working with Open User Map.
Do I need a Google Maps API key?
No. Open User Map uses map styles that work independently of Google Maps. Additionally there are map styles available which require an API Key (CARTO, Mapbox) but you don’t have to use these.
Do I need to set up Google billing?
No. You can publish your map without a Google Maps account or billing setup.
Can visitors submit locations?
Yes. You can enable location submissions and decide whether new locations are published immediately or require your approval.
Is the Open User Map on this page a real demo?
Yes. You can interact with it, explore locations and test its features. The Google Maps panel deliberately shows what happens when an API key has not been configured.
